Amdal is a Tifinagh typeface designed by Walid Bouchouchi - Akakir Studio. Tifinagh is the alphabet used to write Tamazight, a language common to several North African countries and an official language in Algeria and Morocco. This alphabet finds its origin in antiquity, it has long fallen into disrepair, and reintroduced thanks to the committed work of linguists and historians of the region.

Today, there are very few Tifinagh typefaces and Amdal is meant to be an example and an inspiration to typographers and graphic designers who use this script, in the hope of seeing more people invest in this alphabet and enrich a typographic corpus in its infancy.

Amdal is a titling font, born out of a lettering project for Korean fashion brand Merely Made, which was developing a collection inspired by the Sahara (North African desert) with the keyphrase "a better world". From there began the development of a font with a limited glyphset intended to write a particular sentence. Then the rest of the glyphs followed until the glyphsets for Basic-IRCAM, Extended, Neo-Tifinagh and Touareg were completed.

"Amdal" means "World" in Tamazight (Berber language).

Amdal est un caractère typographique tifinagh dessiné par Walid Bouchouchi - Akakir Studio. Le tifinagh est l'alphabet utilisé pour écrire le tamazight, une langue commune à plusieurs pays d'Afrique du Nord et une des langues officielles en Algérie et au Maroc. Cet alphabet trouve ses origines dans l'antiquité, et après avoir frôlé la disparition, a été réintroduit grâce au travail et à l'engagement de linguistes et d'historiens de la région.

Aujourd'hui les typographies tifinagh sont rares et Amdal se veut être un exemple et une inspiration pour inciter les typographes et graphistes à utiliser cette écriture, dans l'espoir de voir plus de gens s'investir dans cet alphabet et enrichir un corpus typographique encore en gestation.

Amdal est un caractère de titrage qui est né d'un projet de lettrage créé pour "Merely Made", une marque de mode coréenne. Cette marque a développé une collection inspirée par le désert du Sahara (dans le Nord de l'Afrique) avec la phrase-clé "Un monde meilleur". Une fonte avec un jeu de caractères limité a été créée pour pouvoir composer des lettrages. Ultérieurement, la fonte a été complétée avec tous les glyphes contenus dans les jeux de caractères basic-IRCAM, néo-tifinagh, touareg et tifinagh étendu.
